Brown Bear

Click to see the original  image Brown bears are mostly found in Turkey. Their species is endangered because of fire and ruining of the forests. The bears which are searched for their furs are hunted even during their hibernation time by some ignorants. The brown bears which prefer to live in forests, bare areas, steps and wild mountains are big animals like the other bears. They are usually 1.5-2.8 metres tall and they weigh between 70-250 kgs. The pregnance of the brown bears usually last for 6-9 months which mate in June or July. The bears prefer vegetables. They prefer the green parts of vegetables, fruits and greasy, sweet grains. like to eat honey a lot too. The bears which are forbidden to hunt do not attack other animals or human beings without a reason. A bear does not attack another creature unless it is hungry or a it is a mother protecting its babies. If humans try to catch him, a bear gets angry and attacks.

There are two types of brown bears in Turkey. They both live in every region except in Thrace. They prefer living up in the mountains or in rocky areas. The brown bears which live in the Eastern Blacksea and North East Anatolia region are called Ursus Arctos Caucasicus. The brown bears which live in other regions of Anatolia are called Ursus Arctos Syriacus.
