For those who prefer sea-sun-sand Akcakoca (left) offers this opportunity at an appealing
setting. You can enjoy the lovely beaches while staying in hospitable guest houses and hotels.
Back on the coast, the lovely beach ands comfortable quest houses and hotels at Akcakoca ensure
that it remins a popular holiday resort. Near the town, you can explore the remains of a Genoese
castle now set amid hazelnut groves. Alapli is an ideal place for water sports, especially
sailing and surfing. Long sandy beaches stretch both east and west on both sides of the town.
Before Turkey's Aegean and Mediterranean coasts grew to be so popular; Amasra (right) was one
of the most preferred vacation spots in Turkey. People from Istanbul and Ankara used to be its
most frequent visitors but now, everyone is familiar with the beauties of this pretty town.
The Black Sea embraces Amasra from three sides. But even the rain and the cold winds are never
a hindrance to visitors. The hotels and boarding houses are always full. And of course, the
fish restaurants. Coming into Amasra, those who look down from the hill called "Bakacak" (to
look) soon realize that they've come upon a true paradise on earth. It's not for nothing that
Mehmet the Conqueror said when he first set foot in Amasra, "Is this where the Fountain of Life
is?" The near-by regions of Tekkevn and Kurucasile, with their picturesque wooden boats, add
another colorful flavor to the town.
Across the Bosphorus, on the Asian shore, Sile's (71 km. from Istanbul) long sandy beaches,
overlooked by the remains of a Genoese Castle, attract many visitors. The excellent restaurants
and nightlife make it a popular weekend retreat for Istanbul residents. Cotton blouses and
shirts (Sile Bezi) are sewn and embroidered here. Sweet and touristic borough, 50 km. away from
Usküdar, is at Black Sea coasts. You can reach to wide and famous Sile beaches (left) via its partially
completed highway and afterwards forests passing bend road. Fishermen's shelter, Genoese castle
ruins and famous lighthouse should be seen. Beaches at west and a series of small beach bays
are lying at east of the borough. Summer months are lively and crowd, there are plentiful
numbers of boarding houses and hotels.
